Stocks declined following a significantly weaker-than-anticipated US GDP report for the first quarter, which intensified concerns about the health of the US economy. The Nasdaq dropped approximately 0.6%. The S&P 500 decreased by about 0.5%, and the Dow Jones fell roughly 1%, shedding nearly 400 points, although the indexes did rebound from larger losses earlier in the day.

Conducted by the NYSE's data analytics team, a division of Intercontinental Exchange, the survey reflects the increasing curiosity in trading major stocks like Nvidia or Apple from 8pm to 4am Eastern time. The interest in round-the-clock trading has surged lately, fueled by the continuous nature of cryptocurrency markets and a boost in retail trading driven initially by the lockdowns during the coronavirus pandemic.

TikTok faces deadline to secure new ownership. President Joe Biden signed a law on Wednesday that bans TikTok in the U.S. unless ByteDance sells the app. TikTok intends to contest the ban legally. However, if unsuccessful, it must quickly find a new buyer. This leads to speculation about who the U.S. government might consider an appropriate buyer for the social media platform, which has 170 million U.S. users and is a growing competitor to established players like Meta.

Meme NFTs Fetch High Prices on the Market. Memes, often considered the flavor enhancers of the internet, are now turning into a lucrative trend. Iconic memes are being transformed into NFTs and are fetching hefty sums. A notable recent transaction was the sale of the Nightclub Meme NFT, which went for 15 ETH, approximately valued at $50,000.

Thermonator, flame-throwing robotic dog, for sale.

Throwflame, an Ohio-based company, has launched the Thermonator, the first robot dog equipped with a flamethrower. This robotic quadruped comes with lidar mapping, FPV navigation, and laser sighting, allowing it to remotely shoot flames up to 30 feet with a one-hour battery life. And it is now for sale for under $10,000.

Apple unveils open source AI models for on-device operation. Apple launched a series of open source large language models (LLMs) named OpenELM (Open-source Efficient Language Models), which are engineered to operate directly on devices instead of relying on cloud servers.

Venice Introduces A World’s First Tourist Entry Fee

Starting this Thursday, Venice will implement a 5-euro ($5.35) entrance fee for day visitors as part of a pilot program aimed at mitigating the impact of over-tourism on the UNESCO world heritage site. This fee will be charged on 29 peak days, primarily weekends, through July 14. Tourists staying overnight in a city hotel, as well as residents, workers, and students in Venice, will be exempt from this fee.

No more airline vouchers. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has issued new rules requiring airlines to swiftly refund passengers in cash or the original payment method for any cancellations, delays, or major changes. Alternatively, passengers may opt for travel credits, other transportation options, or a different flight.

Athens Skies Glow Orange as Saharan Dust Blankets the Mediterranean

On Tuesday and Wednesday, skies from North Africa to southern Europe took on an orange hue, reminiscent of a dystopian film scene due to a thick plume of Saharan dust carried north by jet stream winds.
