On Tuesday, the Nasdaq soared to unprecedented heights, crossing the 17,000 mark for the first time ever, led by Nvidia's remarkable 7% surge. Meanwhile, its counterparts, the S&P 500 and the Dow, had a more subdued day, with the S&P inching up just 0.02% and the Dow slipping nearly 0.6% due to Merck's lackluster showing. Seems like Nvidia was the star of the tech show!

The new 911 Carrera GTS zooms from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, outpacing its non-hybrid predecessor by 0.3 seconds. It boasts a top track speed of 194 mph. For those who prefer an open-air experience, the convertible model starts at $178,200. This marks Porsche’s first hybrid venture for the 911, blending performance with eco-friendliness.

While other automakers like GM and Ford heavily invested in EVs, Toyota stuck to hybrids, facing criticism for not diving into the EV trend. Now, with EV sales slowing and companies like Ford pulling back, Toyota's strategy seems prescient. Experts suggest that major car manufacturers may need to follow Toyota's lead.

OpenAI Forms Safety Committee to Oversee AI Development

OpenAI has created a Safety and Security Committee, led by board members including CEO Sam Altman, as it starts training its next AI model. Backed by Microsoft, OpenAI's AI chatbots can engage in human-like conversations and create images from text prompts, raising safety concerns. The new committee will make safety and security recommendations for OpenAI's projects and operations. According to Gil Luria, managing director at D.A. Davidson, this move signifies OpenAI's shift from a non-profit-like entity to a commercial one. This shift aims to streamline product development while ensuring accountability. It's a strategic step to balance innovation with safety.

PayPal enters the ad game. PayPal is launching an advertising platform using data from customer transactions. The new venture will leverage purchase information from both PayPal and Venmo, aiming to help merchants sell more effectively. Mark Grether, formerly of Uber Advertising, will lead this initiative. Grether highlights that PayPal can pinpoint buying habits and use this data to target ads. Users can opt out, but PayPal will collect data by default. PayPal processed 6.5 million transactions from 427 million customers in early 2024, demonstrating its vast data reservoir. This platform will utilize AI to create personalized offers for shoppers. Other companies, like Facebook and JPMorgan Chase, are also tapping into transaction data for ads.
