Stocks took a hit Thursday, marking the Dow's worst day of 2024, despite Nvidia's post-earnings surge. The Dow plummeted by 605.78 points, Boeing leading the downturn with a 7.6% drop, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq also dipped, albeit less dramatically. Both indices had earlier hit record highs before the downward turn.

Nvidia stock soars with record highs and stock split announcement. Nvidia shares hit an all-time high Thursday, trading at around $1,037 after the company reported stellar first-quarter earnings and announced a 10-for-1 stock split. The chipmaker's revenue of roughly $26 billion exceeded Wall Street expectations by nearly $2 billion. The stock split aims to reduce share price while maintaining investor value. Nvidia, a key player in the AI boom, produces essential graphic processing units for complex AI models. The company's stock has skyrocketed over 242% this year and an astounding 2,800% since 2019. Nvidia’s remarkable growth underscores its dominance in the tech industry.

Southwest Airlines Joins Google Flights Search Results. Historically, Southwest Airlines hasn't appeared on online travel agency websites, requiring customers to book directly through their site. This strategy saves on distribution costs but leaves many travelers unaware of Southwest as an option. Despite this, Southwest's website was one of the first five e-commerce sites to reach a billion dollars in revenue nearly 25 years ago. Typically, users assume sites like Expedia show all flight options, but Southwest has even taken legal action against unauthorized display of their schedules and fares. Now, Southwest Airlines flights finally appear in Google Flights search results, expanding their visibility to more travelers.

Smile to Pay: Biometric Payments on the Rise

With big names like JPMorgan and Mastercard embracing biometrics, you might soon be paying with your face. Biometric payment options are becoming more common in the U.S., with Apple Face ID for app purchases and Amazon’s pay-by-palm technology in stores. U.S. restaurant chains are also starting to offer face payments, a method already popular in Asia thanks to AliPay. Despite privacy concerns, this is par for the course in tech, and Juniper Research predicts $3 trillion in mobile biometric payments by 2025. The future of payments might just be as simple as a smile.

Ground-Penetrating Radar Uncovers Mystery Near Giza Pyramids

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has revolutionized archeology, revealing Viking longships, lost Amazonian civilizations, and even entire Roman cities without excavation. Now, GPR has unearthed another discovery near the Great Pyramids of Giza. Researchers from Tohoku University, led by Motoyuki Sato, used GPR and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) to detect an "L-shaped anomaly" in the western cemetery. This structure, about 6.5 feet from the surface and 33 feet long, was likely an entrance to a deeper tomb. Below it, a highly resistive anomaly was found, possibly indicating sand, gravel, or air voids. To uncover the true nature of these structures, archeologists plan to commence digging soon.
